Calvinism might sound deep or impressive.
It might be packaged as “doctrinally sound” or “gospel-centered.”
But in the end, it replaces the simple call to believe with a system that:

• Redefines words like “world,” “all,” and “grace”

• Restricts the gospel to a secret elect

• Undermines assurance by tying it to perseverance

• Distracts believers from the real joy of salvation

That’s not harmless.

That’s another gospel — one Paul warned us about.

“Though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel… let him be accursed.” – Galatians 1:8

Some people reject Calvinism because it sounds harsh.
They don’t like the idea of God choosing who gets saved and who doesn’t.

But instead of going back to the Bible, many turn to another system called Molinism.

It sounds nicer — but it still has the same core problem.

What Is Molinism?

Molinism was created by a 16th-century Jesuit named Luis de Molina.
It teaches that God knows what everyone would do in any situation — and He uses that knowledge to choose which world to create.

So even though you make your own choices…

God still picked the world where you would make those choices.

That’s called middle knowledge — and it’s nowhere in the Bible.

The 3 Kinds of Knowledge Molinism Invents:

1. Natural Knowledge – God knows everything that could happen

2. Middle Knowledge – God knows what you would do in any situation

3. Free Knowledge – God knows what will happen because He chose this world

That sounds smart — but it’s philosophy, not Scripture.

The Bible never divides God’s knowledge like this.
It simply says:

“God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.” – 1 John 3:20

Molinism Still Has the Same Problems as Calvinism

It tries to keep free will, but it still makes salvation depend on God’s world-picking plan — not your real response to the gospel.

It says:

“God created the world where you would choose Him — or wouldn’t.”

That means:

• If you’re saved, it’s because God picked a world where you’d believe.

• If you’re lost, it’s because God didn’t pick a world where you’d believe.

That’s not whosoever will — that’s determinism in disguise.

It Still Undermines the Gospel Invitation

The Bible says:

“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Romans 10:13
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” – Acts 16:31

But Molinism says:

“You’re only saved if God chose a world where you would believe.”

Have you ever heard someone pray like this?

“This sickness is from God. It’s not His will to heal you.”

If you want to know what the Father is like — look at the Son.

What Does the Bible Say About Praying in Faith?

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God… but let him ask in faith, nothing wavering.” – James 1:5–6

“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” – Matthew 21:22

“And the prayer of faith shall save the sick…” – James 5:15

Faith is not begging God to change His mind.
It’s believing His will has already been revealed in Christ.

How Calvinism Hurts Real Prayer

Calvinist thinking says:

• “God may want you sick to sanctify you.”

• “He only heals when it serves His greater decree.”

• “You can’t presume to know His will.”

So believers end up praying with uncertainty, hesitation, and low expectation.

But Jesus never told anyone to pray like that.

Calvinism can sometimes make people feel that resisting its ideas is the same as resisting God Himself.

But it’s not prideful to say:

“I don’t see that in Scripture.”
“That doesn’t sound like good news.”
“Why would God offer salvation to all if only some can receive it?”

Jesus didn’t preach in secret code. He didn’t say, “Only the elect can come.” He said:

The gospel is not complicated. It’s not reserved for a secret group.

But this makes perseverance a test of salvation, not a result of faith.

And that’s not the encouragement Paul was giving in Philippians 1:6.

What Does Philippians 1:6 Actually Say?

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

This is a personal encouragement to a group of believers that:

• God started a good work in them

• God will continue that work

• That work will be carried on until Christ returns

It’s a promise of God’s faithfulness, not a theological formula.

Let’s look at the context.

The Context: Paul’s Relationship with the Philippians

Just a few verses earlier:

“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now…” – Philippians 1:3–5

Paul is writing to a group of faithful believers who have supported him in ministry.
He’s not warning them about falling away — he’s encouraging them that God is still at work in their lives.

This is not a universal promise to every professing Christian — it’s a specific encouragement to a group Paul knows personally.

What Is “the Good Work”?

The “good work” may refer to:

• Their faith in Christ

• Their growth in love and service

• Their support of the gospel

Paul is saying:

“I’m confident God will keep working in you as you stay focused on Jesus.”

He is not saying:

• “All true believers will automatically persevere.”

• “If someone falls away, they were never real.”

• “Salvation can’t be lost or rejected.”

What Else Does the Bible Say?

The Bible gives plenty of warnings to believers about falling away:

“Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.” – Hebrews 3:12

“If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch…” – John 15:6

“Some shall depart from the faith…” – 1 Timothy 4:1

“Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” – 1 Corinthians 10:12

You don’t need to persevere to prove you were elect.
You need to abide in Christ daily — in faith and love.

God’s Faithfulness vs. Human Responsibility

Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God is faithful to continue His work in the lives of those who walk with Him.

But the Bible also gives us clear warnings:

• Don’t harden your heart – Hebrews 3:15

• Don’t fall away – Hebrews 3:12

• Continue in the faith – Colossians 1:23

Both truths work together:

1. God is faithful to finish His work.

2. We must continue in faith — believing in what Jesus did and remaining in Him.

“Keep yourselves in the love of God…” – Jude 21
“Continue in the faith grounded and settled…” – Colossians 1:23

Faith is not a one-time decision that we abandon; it is a continuing trust in Christ and His finished work.
Remaining in Christ means we keep our hearts believing the gospel — that He died for our sins, was buried, and rose again.

A Simple Analogy

Think of a teacher working with a student:

• The teacher begins the good work of teaching

• She promises to be faithful and help the student grow

• But the student still has to show up, listen, and apply what he learns

If the student walks away — it wasn’t the teacher’s fault.

A Final Word

Philippians 1:6 is a verse of comfort, not control.

It doesn’t teach that the elect are guaranteed to persevere.
It teaches that God is faithful to continue His work — as we continue with Him.

So don’t use this verse to test others. Use it to encourage yourself:

“God’s not done with me. He’ll keep working in me — as I trust and follow Him.”

That’s the promise.

The word “regeneration” means new birth — a spiritual transformation, a renewing by the Holy Spirit.
It’s closely connected to salvation, but how and when it happens matters.

Titus 3:5 says we are saved:

• Not by works

• According to God’s mercy

• By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost

But does that mean regeneration comes before faith?

What Does the Passage Actually Say?

Look at the full thought in Titus 3:4–7:

Faith is the means — not the result — of becoming God’s child.

What Titus 3:5 Does Not Say

“If you’re not one of the elect, you’re spiritually dead — and can’t even desire God.”

But is that what Romans 3 is actually saying?

Let’s Look at the Whole Chapter

Paul’s Main Point:

Paul is building a case that all are guilty before God — both Jews and Gentiles.

“What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin.” – Romans 3:9

Then he quotes several Old Testament passages to show the universal sinfulness of mankind, not their incapacity.

He’s saying:

• Everyone sins

• No one is righteous in themselves

• All people need the gospel

Where Does the Quotation Come From?

Paul is quoting from Psalm 14:2–3:

“The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy…”

But keep reading Psalm 14 — it also says:

“There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.” – Psalm 14:5

So clearly some people do seek God — because they are called “the generation of the righteous” later in the same psalm.

That tells us the phrase “none seeketh after God” is not an absolute statement for all time — it’s a general description of the world apart from God’s intervention.

What Else Does the Bible Say?

Plenty of people are described in the Bible as seeking God — even before they were saved:

• Cornelius (Acts 10:2) – “A devout man… that feared God… and prayed to God alway.”

• Lydia (Acts 16:14) – Whose heart was opened by God as she listened to Paul

• The Bereans (Acts 17:11) – Searched the Scriptures daily to see if Paul’s words were true

• Those in Athens (Acts 17:27) – Paul said they could “seek the Lord… and find him”

Even under the Old Covenant, God told people:

“Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:13

So yes, people can seek God — when they are responding to the light He gives.

Light Rejected vs. Light Received

Romans 3 shows that mankind is sinful and tends to go astray — but it does not teach that people are incapable of responding when God reaches out.

“That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” – John 1:9

“If I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” – John 12:32

God draws. God speaks. God invites.
And those who respond are not saving themselves — they are simply believing what God has offered.

What Romans 3:10–12 Does Not Teach

• That people are so dead they cannot believe

• That only the elect can seek God

• That faith must come after regeneration

Instead, it teaches:

• No one is righteous in themselves

• All need a Savior

• Righteousness comes through faith, not works

And that’s exactly where Paul goes next:

“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested… even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe…” – Romans 3:21–22

The Gospel Is the Answer to Sin

Romans 3 isn’t about ability — it’s about guilt.
Paul isn’t saying you can’t believe — he’s saying you must believe.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Yes, mankind is sinful.
Yes, no one is righteous on their own.
But God, in His mercy, reaches out.

Romans 3 doesn’t lock the door — it opens our eyes to our need for grace.

Being one of His sheep is not about being on a secret list.

“He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

What Makes You One of Jesus’ Sheep?

• That some people are born as “non-sheep” with no chance to believe

He doesn’t just call the sheep.

He calls all of them.

“For many are called, but few are chosen.”

At first glance, this sounds like Calvinism.

It seems to say that:

• God calls many people,

• But only a few are actually chosen to be saved.

Jesus tells a parable about a king who prepares a wedding feast for his son.

• “Called” means a general invitation (like preaching)

• “Chosen” means those God secretly elected before the world began

• Therefore, only the elect will respond and be saved

“Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.” – v.9

“They made light of it, and went their ways…” – v.5
“And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.” – v.6

People are held responsible for rejecting the invitation.
This shows that they had the ability to respond — but chose not to.

3. One Guest Was Cast Out — Why?

“And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment?” – v.12

This man accepted the invitation, but came on his own terms. He wasn’t properly clothed — a picture of someone trying to come to God without faith, without repentance, or without Christ’s righteousness.

He was present, but not prepared.

This illustrates that being invited isn’t enough — you must respond properly.

4. “Many Called, Few Chosen” — What It Really Means

Jesus isn’t saying God only chose a few to be saved.
He’s saying that many are invited, but few respond rightly.

The “chosen” are those who:

• Accepted the invitation

• Came by faith

• Were clothed with the righteousness God provided

This matches what Jesus says elsewhere:

“Whosoever believeth in him should not perish…” – John 3:16
“He that hath the Son hath life…” – 1 John 5:12

The Wedding Garment — A Picture of Salvation

Throughout Scripture, being “clothed” represents salvation by grace:

“He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness…” – Isaiah 61:10

The guest without the garment tried to join the feast without being saved.
He wanted the benefits, but not the righteousness.

That’s why he was cast out.

What This Verse Does Not Teach

Matthew 22:14 does not teach:

• That God predestined only a few to salvation

• That the invitation is fake for the rest

• That people are saved without a response

It teaches:

• God invites all

• Only those who respond in faith are part of the chosen

• But those who come by faith in Christ are welcomed in
