Over the coming weeks, I’m going to try to walk through each Identity in Christ statement found in Scripture. These verses remind us who we are because of Jesus—not based on our past or our performance, but on what He has done.
Today’s short devotional looks at one of the clearest identity statements in the Bible: “a new creature in Christ.”

A New Creature in Christ
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
When we trust Christ, something real happens inside us. God does not just help us behave better—He gives us a new life.
To be “in Christ” means we belong to Him. Our identity is now connected to His life, death, and resurrection. Because of that, the Bible says we are a new creature. God has made something new where the old once ruled.
The verse also says “old things are passed away.” Our past, our guilt, and our old way of living no longer define us. They may still remind us of who we were, but they no longer control who we are.
Then Paul says, “Behold.” Stop and look. Notice what God has done. “All things are become new.” Our heart, our thinking, and our direction in life have changed because God is at work in us.
Life may not look perfect on the outside, but inside, something new has begun.
If you are in Christ, you are not trying to become a new person.
You already are one.

Lord, thank You for making me new in Christ. Help me live today from who You say I am, not who I used to be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
