Dear Friend, It’s Okay to Question Calvinism
You’re not rebellious for asking hard questions — you’re being biblical.
Dear friend,
If you’re reading this, you may be feeling confused.
Maybe someone you trust — a pastor, a friend, or a Bible study teacher — is telling you that Calvinism is the only “solid” or “biblical” view of salvation.
Maybe they’ve said:
“You just don’t understand it yet.”
“This is what the reformers taught.”
“You’re resisting God’s sovereignty.”
Maybe you’ve even started to wonder,
“Am I being prideful for asking questions?”
Let me encourage you: it is good and right to ask questions. You are not alone — and you’re not wrong for wanting to make sure what you believe comes from God’s Word, not a man-made system.
The Bible Commends Testing Every Teaching
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:21
God doesn’t ask you to blindly accept what someone teaches — even if they sound smart or spiritual.
He calls you to test it.
Compare it to the Bible.
Pray about it.
Ask questions.
And if something doesn’t match the clear, simple truth of the gospel, you can walk away from it — without guilt.
It’s Not About Pride — It’s About Truth
Calvinism can sometimes make people feel that resisting its ideas is the same as resisting God Himself.
But it’s not prideful to say:
“I don’t see that in Scripture.”
“That doesn’t sound like good news.”
“Why would God offer salvation to all if only some can receive it?”
Those are honest, humble questions — and they deserve honest, humble answers.
The Gospel Is Meant to Be Understood
Jesus didn’t preach in secret code. He didn’t say, “Only the elect can come.” He said:
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
“Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” – John 6:37
The gospel is not complicated. It’s not reserved for a secret group.
It’s for you. And God wants you to be sure about it.
It’s Okay to Take Your Time
If you’re just starting to see problems with Calvinism, be patient with yourself.
God is not in a rush. He leads with grace.
Ask Him to guide you. Stay in the King James Bible. And don’t be afraid to say:
“Lord, I just want what’s true — help me see clearly.”
That kind of heart honors God — and He will not turn you away.
A Final Word
If Calvinism doesn’t match what you see in Scripture, it’s okay to walk away from it.
That doesn’t make you rebellious.
It means you’re guarding the gospel.
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free…” – Galatians 5:1
Hold fast, dear friend. The truth is worth it.
And you are not alone.
