How Do I Know I’m Saved?
Biblical assurance based on God’s promise — not my performance
“How can I be sure I’m truly saved?”
Many sincere Christians wrestle with this question.
If you’ve believed on Jesus Christ, you’ve probably had moments of doubt.
“Did I believe enough?”
“What if I wasn’t sincere?”
“What if I sin too much?”
“What if I’m not one of the elect?”
If you’ve ever heard Calvinist teaching, the confusion can be even worse.
Instead of pointing to God’s promises, Calvinism points you inward:
“Are you really regenerated?”
“Do your works prove you’re elect?”
“If you’re truly saved, you will persevere.”
But here’s the truth: the Bible gives you a rock-solid way to know you’re saved — and it has nothing to do with feelings or fruit.
It has everything to do with faith in God’s Word.
Salvation Comes with a Promise
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
— John 5:24, KJV
That’s not a maybe.
If you:
Heard His Word
Believed on God who sent Christ
Then you:
Have everlasting life
Will not come into condemnation
Are passed from death unto life
God didn’t say “you might have eternal life if you prove it.”
He said you have it the moment you believe.
Calvinism Clouds the Promise
Calvinist teaching often leads to confusion like this:
“I think I believe… but maybe I’m not truly saved unless I keep believing to the end. Or unless my life proves it. Or unless God really regenerated me.”
But that’s not assurance — that’s fear.
If you can only know you’re saved after a lifetime of fruit, then you can’t know you’re saved now.
The Bible says you can know.
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…”
— 1 John 5:13
What Does the Bible Say?
Here are five ways the King James Bible shows you can be sure of your salvation:
1. God Promised It
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Romans 10:13
Has God ever broken a promise? No.
If you called on Him in faith, you can trust He meant what He said.
2. You Believed the Gospel
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation…” – Ephesians 1:13
If you heard the gospel (Christ died for your sins and rose again) and trusted Christ — that is enough.
God doesn’t demand perfect feelings. He calls for sincere faith.
3. You Were Sealed by the Holy Spirit
“…in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.” – Ephesians 1:13
You don’t seal yourself. God seals you when you believe.
It’s His guarantee — not your grip — that secures you.
4. Your Salvation Is a Gift, Not a Contract
“For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” – Romans 11:29
“The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
God won’t take back what He gave freely.
5. You’re Saved by Grace, Not Works
“For by grace are ye saved through faith… not of works…” – Ephesians 2:8–9
If you didn’t earn your salvation, you can’t lose it by failing to keep it.
It’s not about your performance — it’s about Christ’s finished work.
How to Find Peace
Assurance doesn’t come from:
Looking at your emotions
Watching your behavior
Wondering if you’re on some “elect list”
It comes from looking at Jesus Christ and taking Him at His Word.
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life…” – John 3:36a
Notice the word: hath. That’s present tense. Right now. Guaranteed.
What If I Still Struggle?
You’re not alone. Many Christians doubt because they think salvation depends on how strong their faith is. But even weak faith in a strong Saviour is enough.
Jesus didn’t say, “He that has perfect faith is saved.”
He said:
“He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” – John 6:47
Your assurance grows as you stop looking at yourself and start looking at God’s promises.
A Final Word
You don’t need a theological system to know you’re saved.
You don’t need a feeling.
You don’t need years of fruit.
You need one thing: faith in Jesus Christ and His Word.
If you’ve believed on Him — you’re saved.
If you’ve called on Him — you’re secure.
If you’re trusting Him — you belong to Him.
“Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:24
Don’t let Calvinism cloud the truth.
Rest in Christ. He is enough.
