The “Foolishness” of Preaching
God’s chosen way to bring people to Himself
Have you ever wondered why God chose preaching and believing as the way people are saved?
In the world’s eyes, it seems foolish.
Why not send angels?
Why not speak from heaven with a booming voice?
But God chose a method that shows His wisdom and grace — the simple, open preaching of the gospel.
The Bible Calls It “Foolishness”
“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”
— 1 Corinthians 1:21
God doesn’t save people through:
Secret feelings
Mysterious impulses
Hidden election that works apart from the Word
He saves through hearing and believing the gospel.
What seems weak to the world is actually the power of God.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…”
— Romans 1:16
God’s Chosen Order: Hearing → Believing → Salvation
Paul explains the process clearly:
“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?
and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?
and how shall they hear without a preacher?”
— Romans 10:14
And he concludes:
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
— Romans 10:17
God chose that the gospel would be:
Heard — someone shares the good news
Believed — a heart trusts in Christ
Resulting in salvation — “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13)
No shortcuts. No secret steps.
The Word must be preached, and the heart must believe.
Why Preaching Matters
When we share the gospel, it’s not empty words.
It’s God’s power at work.
“For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them:
but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.”
— Hebrews 4:2
Preaching without faith doesn’t save.
Preaching believed brings life.
That’s why your testimony, your witness, and your church’s preaching really matter.
God has chosen this “foolish” way to save the world — and to let you be part of it.
What This Means for You
You can be saved right now.
Hearing this gospel and believing in Christ is enough. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” – Acts 16:31You can share the gospel with confidence.
Your words might seem simple, but God uses them to save. You can trust God’s method.
Salvation doesn’t come from secret election or silent waiting — it comes by hearing and believing the Word.
A Final Word
The world may call it foolish.
Religious systems may overcomplicate it.
But God delights to use the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe.
And you can be part of His plan — by believing the gospel and by sharing it with others.
