This Isn’t Calvinism vs. Arminianism
The goal is truth — not picking a team
“So… if you’re not a Calvinist, are you an Arminian?”
That’s the first question many people ask.
It’s like politics: If you’re not on this side, you must be on that side.
But here’s the truth:
This isn’t a team sport.
This isn’t Calvinism vs. Arminianism.
This is about returning to the Bible — and rejecting any system that changes the gospel.
What Is Arminianism?
Arminianism comes from Jacobus Arminius, a Dutch theologian who lived in the 1500s. He rejected some parts of Calvinism — especially the idea that God chose people for heaven or hell without any say from them.
But Arminius didn’t throw out all of Calvin’s thinking.
He still believed in:
Total Depravity (that man is completely unable to believe without God first enabling him)
Conditional election (God elects based on foreseen faith)
A “middle ground” view of perseverance
In other words, Arminianism still starts with the idea that man cannot believe unless something is done to him first — just like Calvinism.
That’s why you’ll often hear people say:
“You have to be enabled by grace before you can respond.”
That sounds different from Calvinism — but it’s not what the Bible says either.
Both Systems Get Things Wrong
Both Calvinism and Arminianism are human systems.
Both start with man’s inability.
Both say you can’t just hear the gospel and believe — something else has to happen to you first.
But the Bible says:
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17
“Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth…” – Isaiah 45:22
You don’t need to be regenerated or born again before you can believe.
You don’t need to be secretly enabled.
You need to hear the gospel and respond in faith.
Why We Avoid Labels
When you say “I’m a Calvinist” or “I’m an Arminian,” you’re identifying with a man-made framework. But Paul warned us not to do that:
“For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?” – 1 Corinthians 3:4
God doesn’t want us following a name — He wants us following truth.
Jesus didn’t teach Calvinism.
The apostles didn’t teach Arminianism.
They preached Christ — crucified, risen, and offered to all.
The Bible Alone Is Enough
You don’t need a system to explain salvation.
You don’t need a theological label to study Scripture.
You just need the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, and a willing heart to believe what’s written.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” – Psalm 119:105
“Search the scriptures…” – John 5:39
“Let God be true, but every man a liar…” – Romans 3:4
A Better Way: Be a Bible Believer
Instead of asking, “Which system is right?”
Ask, “What does the Bible say?”
Instead of defending a doctrine from history,
Defend the gospel from Scripture.
Instead of filtering the Bible through TULIP or tradition,
Read it with an open heart and a clear mind.
You’ll find that:
The gospel is for all
Faith comes by hearing
Salvation is a free gift
Assurance is found in God’s promises
And none of that depends on a system.
A Final Word
This isn’t about Calvin vs. Arminius.
This is about Christ.
“Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours… And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.” – 1 Corinthians 3:21, 23
So don’t pick a side.
Pick up your Bible.
Believe it.
Preach it.
Stand on it.
God’s truth doesn’t need a label — it just needs to be heard.
