Dream of Casting Out a Demon on 4.22.23

Who can have a demon?

Last night before I went to bed, I asked the Lord to show me if casting out demons from believers was a real thing. I’ve got friends on many sides of the aisle who say a variety of different things. There are some who claim that demons no longer exist. Others say Christians can’t have a demon because they are filled with Christ. Others say that you can’t be possessed by a demon, but you can be oppressed. Others say you can be controlled and manipulated by demons. Others say you can’t be a demon because you are one with Christ now. Others say they’ve seen lots of demons cast out of those who are professing believers. Others say who cares whether Christians can have a demon or how it works. There is a problem going on, so let’s just get it fixed.

Openly, I’m not totally sure how all that works. I know Jesus sent us to set the captives free. I know I’ve seen unbelievers set free from demons through text messages, in grocery stores, and in churches. I also know I’ve seen those who profess to be followers of Jesus begin to manifest words, voices, and attitudes that are clearly not of Jesus. How all that works, I’m not totally sure. I’d love to know more and to have a better understanding. 

Last night, I prayed to the Lord for clarity and guidance to better understand the situation. I asked the Lord to show me in a dream, and I think this is one of the first times I can remember where I’ve had a dream directly correlate to a question I asked.

Dream Interpretation Steps

Before I share the dream, I learned a way of dream interpretation from a guy named John Redenbo. He has a YouTube channel named Dream Life Decoded. I’d recommend it. He used to do a class in the area, and I had the opportunity to attend a few years ago. It was really great, and I learned a lot. To summarize what I’ve learned from him, you want to share the dream, then write out the key details, figure out what each detail means, then interpret it. Along with those steps, dream interpretation belongs to the Lord, and the Lord is the ultimate interpreter of dreams.

I’m still learning in my quest to understand dreams. I often feel it’s easier to understand what other people’s dreams mean. So for me to keep on learning and growing, I’ve got to keep practicing. I used not to remember my dreams, but now I’ve got hundreds of dreams recorded. Recording all of my dreams has really shown me how God is constantly speaking to me all year long.

Let’s dive into the dream...

The Dream

I had a dream. There were multiple levels. There was one person that was possessed by a demon on a lower level, and I was asked to go and deliver him. 

I started on my way down to go and find this guy. I encountered a heavy set man with a beard on the way down who stopped me and told me he was the one that had been leading this level until the demon possessed man had shown up. He told me that once this demon-possessed man had shown up everyone began to surround him out of fear. He pointed to show that the group was right around the corner.

They were one level below me, and so I found this perch. I began to pray in tongues. It seemed like I was trying to change things for him from that distance. I began to wonder whether praying in tongues for him at a distance would cause him to know I was there. 

Suddenly, he came out from under the perch like a crazed man and looked right up at me trying to figure out what I was doing. He had spotted me. He started to attempt to wildly climb up the side of the wall to try to get at me. So I jumped down from the perch, rushed over to him, and placed my hand on his head. I called out, “Come out in Jesus name!” 

Everything changed for him in an instance. He was freed. We went to leave and suddenly there were camera men all around trying to see what was going on. He was still throwing up some, and with the cameras there he started to fall over the edge of where we were. We had to drop one more level, and I had to catch him. I was able to get him out of there, and we were going to take the elevator back up and out of this lower leveled area. 

On the way to the elevator, I said to him, "I want you to know who set you free. It was Jesus. I prayed for you in the name of Jesus," and it was almost like he didn't believe me. I wanted to share Jesus with Him so that He would become a believer.

Once we got on the elevator he said “Oh, that’s Wolverine.” to a guy who looked like Hugh Jackman from Wolverine. The elevator was packed. We began to take the elevator, but it was all cricketing and cracking. It very much seemed like an old mine shaft elevator made out of wood and wounded ropes.

At the end I saw a graph, or an invoice sheet. It showed that he had owed a debt, but it was all paid now. Everything was paid. Then I began to rejoice.

What’s happening in this dream?

1. The dream is set in a place that has multiple floors.

   • Multiple floors could mean multiple levels to get through to reach a certain point.

2. One of the floors has been taken over by a man who was demon possessed.

   • There is a place that needs to be set free.

   • It’s both a place and a person.

3. I am in the dream, and I’ve been called in to help set the man free in the name of Jesus.

   • The Lord has given me the ability to set people free.

   • People reach out to me to set them free in the name of Jesus.

4. There is another man who used to be the leader of the floor.

   • The man was overweight. He also had a beard.

   • He lost authority.

   • He was still there, but he wasn’t in charge anymore.

   • He understood what was happening, but wasn’t able to, unwilling, or didn’t know how to fix it. He did know where the issue was located though.

5. Many people are in fear around the demon possessed man.

   • People are afraid of demons.

   • People are afraid of this particular man.

   • People will follow those they are afraid of.

6. I use tongues to begin to do something, perhaps try to set him free from a distance.

   • I can speak in tongues in a dream. That’s cool.

7. I can get to higher places in a dream.

   • I’m experimenting in a dream.

   • I want to set people free.

8. Tongues from a distance does cause the demon in the man to react.

   • Tongues causes demons to react.

   • Tongues and praying can work from a distance.

9. The demon is cast out by the laying on of hands and telling it to come out in the name of Jesus.

   • Demons are cast out.

   • This one in particular is cast out by hands and the name of Jesus.

   • I boldly jumped into the mix.

10. There are people with cameras who come to try and see what’s going on.

    • People with cameras are trying to record something.

    • How did they find out?

    • Where did they come from?

    • They were intrusive.

    • Cameras capture stories.

11. The man who was demon possessed is still vomiting and falls off the ledge. 

    • Even though he was set free, he was still vomiting after.

    • It was like more had to be done. 

    • He was disoriented and fell off the ledge.

12. I caught him.

    • Yeah! Catching him is good.

13. We escape to the elevator.

    • Elevators take people up and down.

    • We knew we needed to go to the elevator.

14. A man who looks like Wolverine is there.

    • Wolverine is a comic book character.

    • He had a rough past. 

    • The man recognized him.

    • Wolverines, as animals, are part of the ferret family. They are hardy, intelligent, and good at survival.

15. Hugh Jackman

    1. Hugh means soul, mind, and intellect. Or bright in mind or spirit.

    2. Jackman means God is Gracious

16. The elevator looks like an old mine shaft elevator and is made of wood and rope.

    • Old mine shafts go to places that dig hard things up.

    • This one was also like a big circle. I didn’t share that earlier.

    • It’s made of wood and rope. Not as sturdy as steel, but it worked.

17. The ropes make noises.

    • Ropes making noises are when fibers are running past each other.

18. There is an invoice that has been paid for the man.

    • What the man owed had been paid. He didn’t own anything anymore.

So what does this dream mean?

I'd describe the dream as being invited to cast a demon out of someone's life, freeing both a community and its leader from its influence. I also set the man free in the name of Jesus thereby bringing him into a place God graciously restored his mind and paid his debts.

Now the questions I’ve still got include, is this dream about me and something I need freedom from or is it about something that will be coming in the future? Or is the dream encouraging me that Jesus lives in me, and because He is in me, I have the power and the authority in His name to cast out demons and set people free.

I think I am most encouraged by the dream that Jesus is in me. I wasn’t afraid to set the man free. I boldly went forward and jumped into the action once he came from under the ledge, and called for the demon to come out in the name of Jesus. I’m also excited to see that his debts were paid.

Did I get my answer whether Christians can have demons from the dream?

I don’t think I have direct confirmation from the dream for that particular question. I do think there are things from the dream that could point one way or another. So for now, I think I’m going to go with Jesus is in me, and I have the authority to set free those who are in front of me in the name of Jesus. I will be bold to set the captives free.
